May the Routine Continue

A splash page comic. The Artist is still in bed, cuddled with two cats and the faery. The Faery says "there's things to do", the Artist responds "I know." The Faery says "you know", the Artist responds "you aren't helping." The Faery snorts, "yes, I'm the problem," the Artist requests "five more minutes."

Did you know you can block ads? On youtube for sure; I've also weeded them out of facebook and instagram. Usually I'm content to scroll past or hit skip or not worry about it playing in the background as I work, because we live in an inherently capitalist society and ads are often someone's source of income. But once in awhile something annoys me, and I find myself taking the time to hit the inconveniently tiny "more information" icon to go through the steps to attempt to remove something from the algorithm. Just like gardening, it takes awhile of consistent effort to beat back the ads that offend. The last time I did, it was over some harmless article of clothing that nevertheless was being advertised with egregious amounts of toxic masculinity (how does a weatherproof fleece make anyone more masculine? why must we say layering up makes someone a baby?)—this time, it's AI.

I've been complacent too long, and the ads just keep getting worse and worse. More companies, more tactics, more more more. Well, no longer—I've put on my metaphorical weeding gloves, and I'll be striving to make my little corner of the internet less AI-leaning in whatever ways I can. And if I'm lucky, that'll skew the algorithm for folks in my demographic, too.

Anyways...
